THE BEAUTY THAT I SAW

Director & Editor

The Beauty That I Saw shares radical author William Melvin Kelley's stories about race & poverty in America and shows his approach to building a life for his family while living as an artist.  The film weaves VHS tapes filmed in Harlem during the 80’s, with stories told aloud, while looking back on his life.

Read The New Yorker's portrait of William Melvin Kelley and the Guardian’s review of “A Different Drummer” upon its reissue.
